Our students typically stay for one to three months, with some extending their stays for advanced studies like master’s degrees.

Why Host with Us?

By partnering with Sakura Haven, you’ll have the chance to:

  • Share your hospitality with bright young minds from Japan.
  • Provide a home away from home for students far from their families.
  • Be part of an exciting new venture in the homestay space.

We’re passionate about fostering cultural connections, and we believe your experience can help make a lasting impact on our students’ lives.

INTRODUCTION

The BLUE CARD Working with Children Check (WWCC) is a mandatory requirement for individuals involved in child-related work, including homestay hosts, in QLD. This process includes a National Police Check (criminal history record check) and an assessment of any reportable workplace misconduct. Processing times for a National Police Check may take up to four weeks.

Applicants will receive either a clearance to work with children or a bar preventing them from working with children. If approved, the clearance remains valid for five years, with ongoing monitoring throughout this period.

Security Standard: 'No Card, No Start’

When introduced applicants will not be able to commence paid Hosting while their Blue Card application is pending. ‘No Card, No Start’ will bring paid Hosts into line with volunteers and business operators and will prevent someone from employing a person in child-related employment unless the person holds a working with children clearance and the employer has notified the chief executive about the employment or proposed employment of the person. To emphasise the significant responsibility employers, have as gatekeepers of child-related Host/employment, increased penalties will be imposed against an employer who engages an employee without a working with children clearance, if an aggravating circumstance applies. Someone who starts or continues in regulated employment without a Blue Card could face a five-year jail term, in certain circumstances.

For more information, go to the Blue Card website:
